The study points out the importance of material hardness & how it can be predicted thanks to the process parameters of roll compaction :
For the 1st time, 2 depending process parameters were used to predict granule failure load :
The hardness of the granule was controlled in-line when the specific compaction force was increased during compaction. This process introduces in-line control of material hardness.

We're delighted to announce the recent publication of Cedrine de Backere's first paper. Cedrine is a STYL'One user, and team member of Ghent University's Lab of Pharmaceutical Technology.

This study evaluated the performance of an external lubrication system implemented in a compaction simulator, studing both spraying-time and atomizing pressure.
Low ejection forces were obtained with a much lower lubricant concentration (0.01–0.06% MgSt) compared to internal lubrication (0.75% and/or 1.25% MgSt). In addition, externally lubricated tablets showed no reduced tensile strength and no prolonged disintegration times, which is in contrast to internal lubrication.

Read the article from Catalent explaining the 3 known technologies to develop tablets:
- direct compression
- wet granulation
- dry granulation,
with a focus on roller compaction, as it remains an effective solution for most APIs, in particular those as amorphous solid dispersions.
